Noting that you survived, what was your worst gig like?

I was in an overcrowded bar where all people wanted to do was drink, smoke hookah, and mingle with each other. I told jokes to two people.

What were you like as a teen?
I’ve always been naturally funny. Comedy was not my goal. I thought I would be a basketball star.

On your deathbed, what transcendent advice would you croak at a young comedian?
If you’re not willing to spend hours doing something you love for free, don’t do it.

When you were coming up in comedy, what helped you stick with it?
Joy. Laughter. The excitement of knowing that I made people laugh.

Best comedy advice you ever got?
Learn how to read the room.

Worst comedy advice you ever got?
“You don’t have to be funny. It’s who you know.”

How has being funny helped you in your offstage life?
I use comedy to get over my stress.

What is your movie when you have had a bad day? 
Sister Act

What specific things can a young comedian do to shape their voice?
Get on stage.

Was there one person who inspired you to go into comedy?
My best friend Deborah. She always felt I was ready for the stage.

Do you have a writing routine? 
I don’t have a routine. Ideas pop into my head and then I start writing.
